Saint Mary's Seminary bracing up new SSS system

Lolobi, (V/R), May 20, GNA- The Administration and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Saint Mary's Seminary Secondary School at Lolobi in the Hohoe District are bracing up to meet the challenges of the new SSS system.

At a general meeting on Saturday, the PTA agreed that due to the infrastructure challenges entailed in the four-year Senior Secondary School programme, every parent should pay 100,000 cedis per student per term to put up a new dormitory block to accommodate 100 students. Addressing the meeting, the Headmaster Reverend Father Edward Siffah indicated that dormitory accommodation would be a major obstacle to the admission of more students into the school next academic year. He said the GETFUND was putting up an 18-unit classroom block for the school, while a new classroom block being put up by the PTA was ready for roofing.

Rev. Father Siffah said there were positive indications that the school might be assisted to put up a library, which is currently housed in the science block.

He said apart from the three-story science block, other infrastructures in the school were provided by the Roman Catholic Church and previous PTAs.

"The current PTA, would have to build upon what their wards were now benefiting from", he said.

Rev. Father Siffah advised parents to show keen interest in their wards by visiting the school often to monitor their performance and general conduct.

He said boys deserve a high level of attention as girls because they were all at very delicate stages of their development. Rev Father Siffah told the parents that discipline and high academic standards would not be compromised in the school "because we want to bring up scholars of high moral discipline".

He said the school has introduced a number of examinations to keep the students busy for their final year examinations.

The parents commended the school authorities for their dedication to discipline and high academic standards.

They pledged to co-operate with the school authorities and also motivate the staff for higher performance.
