Today can confidently report that the current power crisis has given a boost to generator business in parts of the country.
This paper’s findings have shown that majority of Ghanaians including industries and companies now depend on generators for survival.
The use of generators has become an alternative means for energy due to the current power cuts which has compelled the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to come out with a load shedding guide.
That situation, according to owners of companies, has resulted in the cost of operations as they have to buy plants and generators for their operations.
That, Today learnt, has accounted for the booming of generators sales in the country, particularly in the Greater Accra region.
The most affected businesses, Today further gathered, was those who operated cold stores.
The owners of these cold stores who looked angry told Today in an interview that they would soon hit the street if government did not do something about the energy situation.
According to a generator dealer in the Central Market of Accra, Uncle Ofori, business before the load shedding was not encouraging but now “I’m happy with the way business is moving on.”
“More people come here every day to buy generators. Sales are now good as compared to the previous times,” he added.
Though he admitted he was not happy with the load shedding exercise, he added it was equally good for his business.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 the ECG released a new load-shedding guide for the whole country with the explanation that the water level of the Akosombo Dam had fallen.
