Salt company donates roofing sheets to Ningo secondary school

Old Ningo, (GA/R), Nov 15, GNA - The Managing Director of Ningo Salt Company Limited, Mr Raymond Ackah has called on companies and other establishments to assist in the development agenda of rural areas, especially in the areas of education and health. He said, since most rural communities lack basic amenities, there is the need for companies operating in such areas to complement government's efforts by assisting the people to improve their living conditions with the provision of basic needs.

Mr Ackah said this when he presented 110 roofing sheets and cash totaling about 12 million cedis to the Ningo Secondary School towards the completion of a six-unit classroom block.

The school block was undertaken through self-help with assistance of the Parent-Teacher Association of the school.

Mr Ackah said the donation is in fulfillment of the company's avowed aim of assisting the school and the community with basic development projects as part of development agenda for the area. The Managing Director said since most rural communities lack basic infrastructure, the company intends to use part of its profit from the industry to provide the needs of the community. He said the company also intends to put up a place of convenience for the Old Ningo township, as well as assist the town's clinic with needed materials under its policy of undertaking development projects for the township. Mr Christopher S. Sedefia, Headmaster of the school, who received the items and cash amount thanked the company for coming to the aid of the school to complete the classroom project. He said the school is one of the deprived educational institutions in the area and has, for the past years depended on the contributions of the PTA and corporate bodies to ensure effective teaching and learning. He said the school has for the past year's been forced by circumstances beyond its control to use an abandoned and uncompleted three-storey building as classrooms, while both the male and female students live in temporary buildings as their dormitories. Mr Sedefia therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Education and Sports and corporate bodies to come to the aid of the school since it is the only government assisted secondary school in the Ningo Traditional Area.
