Agona Duakwa (C/R), Jan 26, GNA - Nana Kofi Abede, Contact Person of a Community Based Organisation (CBO), has called on the government to punish groups and organisations, which mismanage funds for the HIV/AIDS campaign.

He said it was sad to note that some groups had misapplied the funds allocated to them either by the District Assemblies or the Ghana AIDS Commission to fight the disease.

Nana Abede made the call when he inaugurated a 10 member HIV/AIDS peer educators' group at Agona Duakwa to create awareness on the pandemic.

He said the killer disease was causing a lot of havoc to the society and stressed the need to collectively fight to curb its spread. Nana Abede, who is also the Omankrado of Agona Duakwa, tasked the group to embark on a vigorous education campaign in the communities to expose the dangers of HIV/AIDS.

He called on Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Assembly Members and other opinion leaders to complement the efforts of NGOs and CBOs in the campaign since HIV/AIDS was having a devastating effect on the socio-economic advancement of the nation.

Mrs Susan Addison, an Education Counsellor asked couples to remain faithful to each other to avoid contracting the disease. She called on the youth to use condoms if necessary but warned that they should not be considered as a guarantee to indulge in indiscriminate sex.
