Kadjebi(V/R), Mar. 20, GNA - The District Chief Executive of Kadjebi, in the Volta Region, Mr Kofi Adjei Ntim, has called on members of the Sankofa Club in the district to lead their communities in undertaking regular clean-ups to instil clean sanitation culture in the people.
Mr Ntim who was addressing members of the Club after he joined them in a clean-up exercise at Kadjebi on Saturday, to run-off the 47th Independence Anniversay celebrations, promised them the Assembly's logistical support to facilitate their community activities.
The Sankofa Programme was formed about four years ago as a collaborative development effort between communities in the Kadjebi District Assembly and the African Centre for Human Development, a Dutch development organisation, under which community youth projects, including resource libraries and parks were being provided.
The programme had also led to the formation of Sister City relations between Kadjebi and Alkamade in Netherlands and a two-year exchange programme of visits by opinion leaders from both towns. A four-man Dutch team had recently completed a week's visit to the area, while other visits are slated for June and October, this year.
Mr Ntim said under the programme, the district had benefited from a donation of a quantity of refuse containers and implements to promote sanitation in the area.
According to the District Environmental Officer, Mr Lawrence Afeavo, there were currently about 200 members of the Club formed in basic schools in Kadjebi, which is to be extended to other communities. In another development, Mr Ntim had distributed a quantity of walking sticks and clutches donated by the City of Alkamande to disabled persons in the area.
