Santeo Mantse wants proper boundaries for districts

Nii Okuteh Quarshie, Santeo Mantse, has called for the proper demarcation of boundaries defining districts to avoid confusion and tension.

He made the call when Alhaji Antiaye Tetteh, District Chief Executive of the KKDA visited the town to interact with the traditional leaders and the people as part of his working visit to parts of the district.

The DCE was accompanied by Mr Ellis Afari, Presiding Member, Mr Kwame Asare, Coordinating Director and departmental heads of the Assembly.

Nii Quarshie noted that for instance Kanawu and Suncity which traditionally falls under the jurisdiction of Santeo was currently under the Adjei Kojo electoral area which is under the Tema West Constituency and for that matter being administered by the TMA.

He indicated that this has created some confusion among the residents explaining that this was evident during the biometric voters registration exercise as some of the people from Kanawu and Suncity registered at Santeo which is in the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency while others registered under Tema West Constituency.

He added that apart from the registration, he and his people sometimes have difficulties as to which district assembly to contact for the development for a particular area.

Mr Afotey Mensah, Assembly Member for the Onyaishei (Santeo) Electoral Area, said the lack of pipe borne water, public toilet, Junior High School, market, Police station and bad road linking the town to Ashaiman and Tema as the major problems facing the community.

Alhaji Tetteh promised that the KKDA would collaborate with the traditional leaders to provide the immediate needs of the community. He therefore appealed to the community to have faith in the Assembly as the creation of the KKDA from the TMA would provide the needed resource for development to be extended to the town.

Prior to the visit to Santoe, the DCE and his entourage visited the First Batallion of Infantry at Michelle Camp.

Major Abosi Oppong, who represented Lieutenant Colonel Fred Ntiri, Commanding Officer of the Infantry, said the military will fully collaborate with the Police and other security services to safeguard the peace in the district and the country before, during, and after the December 7 election.

He called for the expansion of the school in the camp as it was currently over crowded due to the enrollment of children from the surrounding towns.

Major Oppong suggested to the KKDA to provide dustbins and refuse collection points in the nearby communities as residents from those places have turned parts of the Military lands into refuse dumps.
