Save Kwanyako Secondary school from collapse

Agona Kwanyako (C/R), June 10, GNA - The Kyidomhene of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Ampim Darko V, has appealed to President J. A. Kufuor to ensure that the Agona Kwanyako Secondary School is renovated.

Nana Ampim Darko who is also the Chief of Agona Kwanyako said the school, which was established 16 years ago with a population of more than 400 students had only two classrooms.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kwanyako, Nana Ampim Darko, noted that the school had no administration block, science laboratory, library, toilet facility and hostel to accommodate the students who travel from other towns in the district.

The Chief said the authorities of the school and Kwanyako Chiefs had to struggle before the Roman Catholic Church for the release of an abandoned four-classroom.

Nana Ampim Darko said last year when President Kufuor toured the Central Region, he made a promise to improve facilities to the institution a model school and gave directives to the then Minister of Education and Sports, Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo. He stated that in line with the policy to establish a model secondary school in every district, Kwanyako was chosen but it was shifted to Agona Nyakrom Secondary School.

The Chief appealed to the Central Regional Minister and Minister of Education and Sports to expedite action on the directive by the President.

He stated that to improve facilities of the school, he had constructed two classrooms at the cost of 200 million cedis for a computer and science laboratories. Nana Ampim Darko commended the headmaster, Mr Francis Koomson, for his sense of direction and hard work to ensure an improvement of the school. 10 June 06
