Save Our Beaches-Ghana, has appealed to public spirited individuals and organisations to help keep the beaches clean and healthy after using them during the yuletide.
A statement issued in Accra by Paa Kwesi Wilson, Executive Secretary of Save Our Beaches-Ghana, said beaches in the country are in very deplorable state and this poses a big threat to marine and human lives.
It said it is the responsibility of Ghanaians to clean and maintain the beaches and this must be done voluntarily to support the development of the nation.
It advised beaches goers during the season to carry extra bags to collect the trash they make and other rubbish around them at the beaches and report all who engage in detrimental activities.
“Let us all join hands and together bring transformation to our coasts. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step.
“We wish to use this platform to reiterate our desire and commitment in ensuring that our beaches are transformed into clean, healthy, safe, beautiful and comfortable places comparable to the beaches in the developed nations.
“Our doors are widely open to all who share in our vision and are willing to help us achieve it.”
Save Our Beaches Ghana is a non-governmental organisation that seeks to ensure that all beaches in the country are well kept and clean.
