Sawuah (Ash), March 28, GNA - Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe, has promised to offer scholarship to 10 junior secondary school students in the area, who excel in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to pursue senior secondary school education from next academic year.
This, he said would be met from his share of the MP's common fund. Mr Osei-Mensah made this known at an Easter fund-raising harvest of the chiefs and people of Sawuah in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District to raise funds for their development projects.
The projects estimated to cost 100 million cedis include teachers' quarters, streetlights and drainage system.
Residents and non-residents citizens are contributing 10,000 and 50,000 cedis respectively in addition to providing communal labour. The MP said his main focus was to raise the standard of education in the area and appealed to parents not only to enrol their school-going children in school but also see to it that they are retained. He assured the people that the road from Sawuah Junction to Sawuah would soon be reconstructed and called on the people to be patient. In a speech read for him, Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the District Chief Executive, cautioned the youth on the dangers of the HIV/AIDS and to refrain from casual sex. Nana Poku Agyeman, Adontenhene of Sawuah, who chaired the function, appealed to the citizens to pay the levies promptly to enable the projects to be completed on time. Twenty-Two million cedis was raised at the function.
