School Board dissatisfied with school performance

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Feb 12, GNA- The Board of Directors of the Dormaa Secondary School at Dormaa-Ahenkro has expressed dissatisfaction with the school's performance in the 2003 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE).

The school scored 44.4 percent passes and placed 137th on the national list as published.

The Board at a meeting at Dormaa Ahenkro on Tuesday set up a five-member committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Stephen Hayford Baah, a retired educationist, to look into the causes of the poor performance of the school and make the necessary recommendations for improvement.

It expressed concern about the level of indiscipline among the students and appealed to the tutors, parents and guardians to help address the problem.

The Board called on old students of the school to form an Association and raise funds to support the development of their Alma Mater.

It expressed satisfaction with on-going development projects in the school, which included the construction of a two-unit masters' bungalows, a girls' dormitory block and a fence wall. The Board appealed to the Ministry of Education, Dormaa District Assembly and non-governmental organizations to support the school in the execution of projects.

It acknowledged the contributions of the parent-teacher association of the school through the provision of facilities towards the development of the school.

Mr. Alex Baah-Boffah, the Headmaster, said the performance of the school in the 2003 SSSCE should be a challenge to both tutors and students to work harder.

He appealed to parents and guardians to provide their children with their basic needs to enhance teaching and learning.
