Kologu-zuo (U/E), July 26, GNA - Some 192 school children from Kologu-zuo Primary School in the Kassena-Nankana East District have received school uniforms and exercise books under the government's free school uniform programme.

Presenting the uniforms the District Chief Executive, Mr. Emmanuel Andema, said the exercise would reduce the financial burden on parents to enable them send their children to school since it was compulsory for every child to have access to education.

Mr. Andema called on parents to play leading roles in their children's education, saying education was a clear way for the development of the area and the country.

Mr. Andema said some teachers were misusing the capitation grant meant for their schools and that measures had been put in place to deal with head teachers who do not use the grants for their purpose.

He said the government had increased the number of children on the school feeding programme and 30 boreholes had been allocated to the area.

The District Director of Education, Mr. Severio Dery, said more teachers were being trained and very soon they would be deployed to schools in the area and appealed to community members to support teachers who would be sent to the area.

A teacher at the school, Mr. Pascal Apaliya, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the school has only three out of six teachers needed to satisfy the teacher requirement for the school.

He said the school lacks teaching aids and has to borrow these aids from other schools to enable academic work go on.

The Chief of the area, Naba Akanfan Adabere, commended government for the intervention in promoting education in the area and said the initiative had come to his people at the right time to solve the problems of getting their children to go to school.
