Dompoase (Ash), July 1, GNA - Major Frank Kofi Adzazu of the Ghana Armed Forces has urged school cadet corps not to see themselves as military personnel deployed on campuses to bully other students. They should rather become an important tool for promoting peace, harmony and orderliness in schools.

Major Adzazu was inaugurating the 70-member cadet corps of the Dompoase Senior High School (SHS) in the Adansi North District. He told them to be disciplined and respectful so as to become good example to their colleague students.

Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Education Director, said the establishment of the cadet corps was helping to build in the young people patriotism, hard work and selflessness. This, he said, was good for the progress of the nation. The vigorous training they are receiving is also helping to keep them physically strong and mentally alert, he added. Mr Onyinah underlined the need for students not only to be trained to acquire academic knowledge and skills but also assisted to maintain acceptable standards of social conduct. He appealed to the students to stay away from acts of lawlessness, vandalism and other bad behaviours. Mr Abdul Lateef Madjoub, the District Chief Executive, pledged the assembly's resolve to support the school with some logistics and infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning. 01 July 10
