School children receive educational materials

Kumasi, Aug 20, GNA - The Kumasi Metropolitan Education Office on Thursday distributed school uniforms and learning materials to 100 needy school children in Kumasi.

The beneficiaries, made up of 35 boys and 65 girls were selected from the Asokwa, Bantama, Manhyia and Subin four sub-metros. Children in upper primary had a school uniform, 10 exercise books, a ruler, pen and pencil each while those in lower primary received a uniform, five exercise books, rulers, pens and pencils each.

Mr Appiah Dabo, Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Finance and Administration, said the donation was the Metro Education Office's widow's mite to assist the school children.

He expressed the hope that the gesture would encourage them to remain in the classroom and advised the beneficiaries to study hard to pass their examinations to justify the investment being made in their education.

Meanwhile, about 20 members of the Abuontem Catholic Church in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District also in the Ashanti Region, have presented 300,000 cedis to the Saint Michael's Catholic Hospital, at Pramso.

Nana G K Gyasi, a member of the Church, said the donation was their contribution towards the upkeep of the sick. Dr Asiedu Bekoe, Assistant Medical Superintendent, commended the Church for the gesture.
