The student population of Zuarungu Senior High School near Bolgatanga increased from 542 in 2010 to 585 in 2011 and 1039 in 2012.

Mr. Daniel Adebuure, Headmaster of the School disclosed this at a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting and said the increase had caused accommodation problems for both students and teachers.

Mr. Adebuure appealed to the PTA and other stakeholders to assist in putting up accommodation for teachers to enhance discipline on campus as the teachers needed to be near the students.

He said the school was faced with water problems despite the PTA’s initiative to supply water to the school, adding that it had to buy water from Zoomlion Company.

Touching on academic performance, he said the school recorded 100 per cent passes in 2009 and 2011 in the final examinations.

He added that in 2009, the school registered 159 candidates with all the students passing and 32 gaining admission to the university. In 2011 however, 160 of the students passed with 93 getting placement in various universities.

He said the 2013 registration was on-going with two batches comprising third and forth year students to sit the examination in April 2013.

He said the forth year students were adequately prepared but was quick to add that the third year students needed some extra tuition and counseling for the pending examination.

He commended the PTA for their financial support and called on them to take up the bills of the school’s ICT centre which had been connected to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Mr. Victor Abagre, Chairman of the PTA, expressed dismay at the level of indiscipline by some students and urged parents to complement the efforts of school authorities in ensuring discipline in students.

He noted that issues which were criminal in nature should be reported and dealt with by the police and not school authorities.**
