School head pleads for fairness in computer placement

The Headmistress of Prince of Peace Girls’ Secondary School in Kumasi, Rev Sis Veronica Adomako-Manu, has called for fairness and balance in the computerized schools selection and placement system.

She complained about the situation where some senior high schools kept receiving students in excess of what they required while others continued to see their numbers dwindling.

She cited the example of her school which has facilities to accommodate 200 new students but had just only14 new students placed in it under the system in the 2013/2014 academic year and for this year the figure rose to 15.

Rev Sis Adomako-Manu expressed the fear that if things stayed the way they were now, the school could collapse.

She said this when she received gifts costing about GH¢ 9,000 in support of its Home Economics Department.

These included an industrial oven, two table-top gas cookers, 10 gas cylinders, eight gas burners, one double door fridge and water-closet toilet sets.

They were donated by old students of the school in response to an appeal and the headmistress said they were grateful for the donation.

Miss Gifty Afriyie Gyansah, a representative of the former students, pledged further assistance to enhance teaching and learning.
