School receives solar panels

The Ghanaian-German School, a Senior High School (SHS) at Denkyembuoso in the Atwima-District has taken delivery of solar panels to save it from the current national energy crisis and allow for smooth academic work.

The panels cost over €6,000 and were jointly funded by a German NGO, “Friends Helping Friends”, Mr Joseph Kobla, a Germany-based Ghanaian and the Chief of Atwima, Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong.

The NGO contributed €4,000 whilst the two other individuals provided the remaining amount.

Mr Karikari Osei-Owusu, the Administrator of the School, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the solar panels would not only spare them the frustration associated with the on-going power rationing but will also assure the school of uninterrupted water supply.

He said with this the teachers and students have no excuse for non-performance.

The school, which offers courses in Home Economics, General Arts, Visual Art, Business and Electricals, has adequate infrastructure – classrooms, multi-purpose hall, well-resourced computer-laboratory and library.

Mr Osei-Owusu said in addition to the energy supply assistance, the German NGO, was helping to build a basketball court for the school.

He commended Nana Brempong for his tremendous support to the SHS, adding that, he was also funding the construction of a fence wall to protect the school lands against encroachment.

Mr Albert Osei-Owusu, the Founder of the school, spoke of plans to provide staff accommodation and additional structures at a total cost of about €1.5 million as it worked towards achieving the goal of becoming a centre of academic excellence and a preferred choice of students.
