Pinihe (B/A) March 22, GNA - The staff and pupils of the Roman Catholic Primary School at Pinihe in Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo at the weekend undertook a three-hour clean up exercise to promote sanitation in the area and the good health of the people.

They removed cobwebs from the ceilings of the classrooms and later moved to the town to clear weeds around the only borehole, swept the streets and desilted gutters.

Mr. Charles Baafour Amisare, head teacher, expressed gratitude to the staff for organizing the pupils to undertake the exercise and hoped that the exercise would not be a day's wonder.

Parents should ensure that their children clean their teeth daily, cut their fingernails and bathe every day before they come to school, so as to protect them against communicable diseases.

Mr. Amisare, who is Assembly Member for Pinihe advised the people to keep their surroundings clean and observe personal hygiene at all times.

They should desist from throwing used polythene bags, paper or leaf wrappers and waste materials into the streets, he said, and urged parents to provide their children with balanced diet to promote their health and protect them against diseases.

The Head teacher and the Assembly Member expressed concern about the lack of adequate potable drinking water in the area as the only borehole was not able to serve the large population of the community. He appealed to the District Assembly to help them address the problem to enhance the development of the area.
