Scores rendered homeless, school buildings destroyed following heavy rainfall in Kintampo

A heavy downpour in Kintampo in the Kintampo Municipality of the Bono East has rendered scores of people homeless.

Ten buildings and school buildings were destroyed following a heavy downpour which was characterised by some strong winds.

Two schools, Baffoe Municipal Authority and the Badriya Islamic Basic Schools all had their roofing sheets completely destroyed.

A garage belonging to the Ghana National Fire Service was also not spared as it was also destroyed by the strong winds.

Ghanaweb sources reveal that the residents whose houses were destroyed have been forced to seek refuge with friends and family members.

The Kintampo Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Abubakar Mohammed, in an interview with Ghanaweb, confirmed the news but revealed that plans are underway to cushion the affected persons.

Mr Mohammed revealed that his outfit has already down situational assessment and compiled names of affected victims for the needed help to be offered to them after a technical meeting.



“The impact of the heavy downpour has been very devastating as our assessment shows that ten houses were destroyed. In addition, two basic schools and a garage of the Ghana Fire Service were also destroyed and so we are putting in place measures to see how we can assist those who were affected”.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kintampo Municipal Assembly, Mr Michael Baafo Sarkodie, who has since visited the scene to ascertain the extent damage has pledged the Assembly’s support to the affected persons and institutions.
