Security agencies arrest seven Fulani herdsmen

Koforidua, Sept 28, GNA - A joint military/police team have arrested seven Fulani herdsmen at Sempoa in the Kwahu South District following the killing of three workers of the Government Plantation Development Project last week.

Five others were injured in an exchange of gunfire between a group of Fulani herdsmen and security men last Thursday. The deceased workers are Mr Kwabena Appiah Agyapong, Mr Kwame Agyei and Mr Stephen Boateng.

A statement signed by the Eastern Regional Police Commander, Mr R.E. Kwakye, said the team was deployed to protect people living in the district bordering the Afram River following reports of killings, destruction of farms, harassment, threats of death, raping of women by the Fulani herdsmen.

It said during the exchange of fire, a bullet fired from an AK 47 assault rifle by a Fulani herdsman hit and penetrated the helmet of a policeman.

The statement said a Russian-made gun, three shot guns, cartridges and magazines were retrieved from some of the herdsmen.
