Security services at Bawku participate in football competition to cement working relationship

Bawku Security Services Organise Soccer Match Col Yaw Owusu Appah with Patience Baffoe-Bonnie of the Ghana Prisons Service

Security services deployed in Bawku organised a men’s football competition on May 28, 2024, at the Bawku Secondary School.

The event was under the auspices of the Joint Task Force Commander (JTF Comd) Bawku, Col Yaw Owusu Appah, and heads of other security agencies at Bawku.

The guest of honour, Deputy Director-General of Prisons/Administration, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, in an opening interaction, implied that the event was geared towards fostering esprit de corps among all the security agencies in Bawku, and also creating a good working relationship among the security services in efforts at bringing lasting peace to the people of Bawku.

The competing teams included GAF, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service and the Ghana Immigration Service football teams.

The first phase of the competition saw the Ghana Armed Forces and Ghana Police Service qualify for the finals of the competition after beating Ghana Prison Service and the Ghana Immigration Service respectively.

GAF emerged champions in the grand finale by beating the Police Service by a goal to nil.

In a closing remark, JTF COMD, Col Yaw Owusu Appah, expressed his joy at how troops socialized during the competition and iterated on the need to work together at all times, elaborating that, that is what is called professionalism.

He iterated that socialization and improving the working relationship among the security agencies was the main effort of the competition.

He noted that these events needed to be sustained. He also eulogised the effort of the GOH, Deputy Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, for driving all the way from Accra to Bawku to witness the games.

JTF COMD ended his remarks with a presentation of a T-shirt customised “Peace for Bawku” to the GOH.

In her remarks, the GOH expressed satisfaction at the level of socialisation, indicating that it gave her hope for peace in Bawku.

She entreated the personnel to continuously demonstrate to the community a peaceful coexistence among the security services, as a model for the community to emulate.

The event was crowned with a presentation of a football, a volleyball, table tennis balls and table tennis sets (2 pairs of bats, balls and a table tennis net) to the Bawku Secondary School by the guest of honour, on behalf of the heads of the security agencies in Bawku.
