Sefwi-Wiawso-Benkyima junction road completed

Sefwi-Wiawso (W/R), Aug 14, GNA - Cocoa and timber producing communities at Sefwi in the Western region, have expressed satisfaction to Government for completing the rehabilitation of 44-kilometre Sefwi-Wiawso-Benkyema junction road.

The 305 million GH cedis project funded jointly by the governments of Ghana, the Netherlands and the Export Credit Agency, was the first phase of road rehabilitation works in some cocoa producing areas in the region.

Work included double-face dressing with bitumen surface and construction of a number of bridges, drains and culverts. Travelling time from Sefwi-Wiawso to Benkyima junction had reduced drastically from about four hours to 35 minutes after the completion of the road.

Beneficiary communities include Boako, Asafo, Asawinso, Tanoso, Datano, Domeabra, Punikrom, Anyinabrem and Sefwi Camp all major cocoa, timber and food crop producing areas.

Mr Shelter Yao Lotsu, Officials of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), on Thursday joined Mr Atta Boamah, Sefwi-Wiawso District Chief Executive to inspect the project.

Mr Lotsu commended the company for a good work done in spite of a number of challenges they had to grapple with including the perennial rainfall pattern of the sefwi area and noted that the project would help to improve the social and economic lives of the people.

Mr Joost Keessen, Project Manager of Interbeton undertaking the project said in spite of the difficult terrain, the project which began in February 2006 had finished the work before deadline. Mr Boamah emphasised the determination of the government to improve the lots of the people by providing the basic infrastructure to enhance development.
