Sefwi citizens appeal to MPS to unite chiefs to ensure development

Tema, July 12, GNA - Members of the Tema branch of the Sefwi Citizens Association (SCA) have appealed to the four Members of Parliament (MP) of the Sefwi area to intervene and unite the three paramount chiefs to ensure speedy development of the area.

They noted that the lack of coordination and co-operation among the chiefs has seriously affected development and progress of Sefwi, in the Western Region and until this was corrected no meaningful development could be achieved.

They made the appeal at their bi-weekly general meeting on Saturday at Tema during which they interacted with one of the MPs, Mr Gyapong Mensah of Juaboso on the development and progress of the area.

The paramount chiefs are Nana Nkua Okomdom II, Omanhene of Sefwi Wiawso, Odeneho Nana Gyapong Ababio of Sefwi Bekwai and Ogyeahoho Nana Yaw Gyebi II of Sefwi Anhwiaso traditional area.

The other three MPs are Mr Isaac Nyame Ofori of Sefwi Wiawso, Mr Musah Adamu, Sefwi Anhwiaso-Bibiani-Bekwai and Mr Michael Boampong of Bia. The members who took turns to express their sentiments said the area abounded in cocoa, timber, foodstuffs, bauxite and gold among others which form the bulk of the nation's resources, yet it was the least developed in infrastructural and human resources.

They noted that unity among the chiefs would enable them have a common voice to fight a common purpose to promote a rapid growth of the area, which stretched from the Sefwi Anhwiaso-Bibiani-Bekwai to the Oseikojokrom in the Bia constituency that shares boundary with La Cote d'Ivoire.

They members said though the chiefs had not come out openly to state that there were differences among them, "we are citizens of the area and we know what is happening and do not need anyone to tell us."

The members of SCA explained that they made an approach to the Reverend Father of the Sefwi Wiawso Catholic Church to intervene to help solve the problem but without success and had therefore decided to turn to the MPs.

Mr Jacob Fuachie Sobreh, Chairman of the association expressed the hope that with a concerted effort something better would come out of their plea.
