Sekondi-Takoradi PM wants city dwellers to be active in assembly matters

Takoradi Aug.15, GNA-Mr. Mohammed Ali, Presiding Member of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), at the weekend called on the twin city dwellers to assist the Metropolitan Assembly to achieve its development targets.

He made the call at the public hearing of the Assembly's draft Medium-Term Development Plan for 2010-2013 at Takoradi.

Mr. Ali said the assembly cannot achieve much without the active support of the people.

He said the assembly would continue to commit it is share of the District Assembly Common Fund to development projects.

He said resident have to complement the assembly's effort by co-operating to implement programmes and policies and by observing their responsibilities to the assembly and their communities.

Mr. Ali said the people are the Metropolitan Assembly and if they are "not responding to the aspirations of the assembly, they should be made alive to their responsibilities".

He said the people have the right to call their elected representatives to the Metropolitan Assembly to order if they fail to perform.

Mr. Henry Owusu, the Metropolitan Development Planning Officer, said projects would be undertaken in all sectors of the economy under the medium-term plan of the assembly.

He said projects earmarked included construction of residential quarters for teachers in deprived communities as well as public schools blocks.

Mr. Owusu said and medium-term plan would also focus on the Takoradi City Centre Development Scheme and the re-development of the Takoradi Central Market and the Sekondi Market.
