Sekyere Central District Advisory Committee of MCA programme inaugurated

Nsuta (Ash), Sept 29, GNA - A District Advisory Committee (DAC) to provide advice and make input for the successful implementation of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) programme in the Sekyere Central District and part of the Afram Basin Zone has been inaugurated at Nsuta. The 18-member committee includes the District Chief Executive, District Planning Officer, the District Director of Agriculture, the Presiding member, five elected representative of the District Assembly, the District Co-ordinating Director, the District Environmental Officer, the Member of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo and representatives of some civil societies.

Speaking at the inauguration Mr Haruna Oppong Boateng, the District Chief Executive, said the district, which forms part of Afram Basin, is fertile and arable and serves as the bread basket of the Ashanti Region.

He expressed regret that the area is beset with deplorable infrastructure such as roads, schools, electricity and health facilities.

He said under the MCA programme in the district, the 22-kilometre road from Ejura to Domi Number Two which is to be developed into a first class road is now in a deplorable condition to the extent that the area would soon be cut off from the rest of the country. Mr Oppong-Boateng appealed to the Millennium Development Authority (MDA) not to delay any longer for the implementation of project in the district as the communities are becoming desperate and fear that they are being deceived.

Mr Selassie Adjorlolo, the Community and Public Outreach Manager of MDA, said the objective of setting up DAC under the programme is to bring consultations closer to the people at the district level to enable them to discuss issues pertaining to their districts.
