The National Best Teacher, Madam Rita Oppong says she was overjoyed when her name was mentioned at the durbar yesterday.

Speaking in an interview with sit-in-host for Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm's, the teacher said, hard work, dedication and commitment contributed to her success.

She said, the classroom is not the only environment a teacher needs to explore rather, the teacher needs to part of the community where he/she teaches.

When asked to highlight the major challenges teacher face in line of their duty, she called on government to provide accommodation facilities for teachers in deprived communities.

Madam Rita Oppong a member of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) said, she don't go on strike like her colleague teachers, although the concerns which inform their decision are genuine.

In an answer to a question by a listener on the contributing factor to the poor performance of students in their final exams, she explained that, the fault cannot be placed at the door step of only one person but every stakeholder including teachers, students and parents.

She was however quick to add that, the performance of students this year was far better than previous years. She admonished her colleague teachers to dedicate fully to the profession and discharge their duties with integrity.

For her prize, she had a three bedroom house built at a place of her choice, a laptop computer and GHC100,000 to be put into a treasury bill account, as her prize.
