Ho, Sept. 6, GNA - The Chairman of the Public Procurement Board, Mr Albert Sam on Tuesday charged Ghanaian road contractors to improve their job performance to stop the government from awarding contracts to foreign contractors.

He expressed concern over the activities of some contractors, who fail to execute jobs awarded them, "such behaviour always destroy the image of road contractors".

Mr Sam, who is a former Chief Director of Ghana Highways Authority was speaking at the opening of a four-day seminar on Promotion of Small and Medium Scaled Enterprise in Road Maintenance, organized for 30 members of the Volta Region branch of the Association of Road Contractors (ASROC) He, therefore, urged contractors to put in their maximum efforts in executing jobs awarded them.

Mr Sam said it was the desire of the Association that, contractors go in for jobs and perform well to benefit the society. The contractors among other things would be taken through project planning, site organization and administration, public procurement act and measurement of work.

In a welcome address read on his behalf, Alhaji Soaley, Volta Regional Chairman of ASROC said it was the desire of the members of the association to acquire new skills and knowledge in their business. He, therefore, expressed his gratitude to their development partners for supporting ASROC to update their entrepreneurial skills. Alhaji Soaley hoped the four days studies and brainstorming would bring out the best in members to enable them excel in their various fields.

Mr Daniel Agroh, secretary of the Association in an interview with the press, attributed the delay in executing job awarded to contractors to the delay in the payment of their certificates, "some of our people are always accused for doing shoddy jobs, some are not deliberate, majority of such acts are caused by lack of funds to execute such jobs."
