Senior citizens are being urged to mentor the younger generation and pass on their knowledge to play a substantial role in nation building.

At the Republican Day ceremony to honour senior citizens in Cape Coast, The Municipal Chief Executive of Cape Coast, Ms. Pricilla Arhin, said senior citizens were worth celebrating for their contributions to national development and that it was critical for them to pass on their knowledge and selflessness to today’s generation.

At least 200 senior citizens were feted by the Central Regional Coordinating Council and 50 of them were given gifts and citations.

The outgoing Central Regional Minister, Mr Ebenezer Kwadwo Teye Addo, said the event was to honour the gallant men and women who fought for the independence and republican status of the country and also in appreciation of senior citizens who continued to work hard for the development of the country.

He said the dynamic nature of society and the changes that came with it required valuable advice from the aged to ensure sustainable national development. The aged must, therefore, constantly share their experiences and expertise.

Daasebre Kwebu Ewusie VII, President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, presided over the ceremony, attended by Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area and other dignitaries.
