Seven DCEs/Presiding Members joins WRCC

Sekondi, May 29, GNA - Mr Justice Robin Batu, Western Regional Supervising High Court Judge, on Thursday swore into the Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC), seven newly appointed District Chief Executives (DCEs) and Presiding Members (PMs). The swearing-in ceremony took place at the maiden meeting of the WRCC for the year.

Those sworn-in included Mr Saeed Abdul-Rahman Yankey and Mr Edward Arthur, DCE and Presiding Member respectively of the Ellembele District Assembly.

Others were Mr Francis Arhin, PM of Prestea-Huni Valley and Mr Joseph Amoah, DCE and Mr Joseph Arthur, Presiding Member of the Shama District Assembly.

The rest were Mr Yaw Atta-Boamah, DCE and Mr Godfred Agiyei, Presiding Member of the Sefwi Wiawso District Assembly. Addressing the meeting, Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, the Regional Minister, asked the DCEs to be conscious of the sensitive positions they were occupying and said although they represented the President in their areas, they were also accountable to the local people. "On no account must you take them for granted," he charged them. Mr Amoah appealed to them to serve the people with humility and to cooperate with District Coordinating Directors in order to win their confidence and work as a team.

Mr Amoah appealed to the Presiding Members to also see District Chief Executives as partners in development.

He said it was necessary for those in leadership positions to endeavour to create a congenial atmosphere for the forthcoming general elections to keep the country's development agenda on course. Mr Amoah said: "Let us educate our constituents, party affiliates, family members, friends and co-workers to conduct themselves in ways that will preserve the peace.

"Let us do well not to make inflammatory speeches or statements so that before, during and after the elections we can hold our country together and work to attain the level of development we expect", he added.

Mr Amoah said to ensure the smooth running of the four newly created district assemblies in the region, the mother Assemblies would provide them with seed funds as well as share assets. He said information released by Kosmos Energy indicated that, Ghana's oil discovery is the largest discovery ever in deep waters in West Africa. Mr Amoah said: "this is good news because the Western Region is a gem in Ghana and we need to work together for the realisation of our goals". 30 May 08
