Shama, March 07, GNA - The Shama District Assembly has instituted an award scheme for students who perform well as a morale booster for them to take their studies seriously.
Madam Emelia Arthur, the outgoing Shama District Chief Executive, said results of the Basic Education Certificate Examination in the district was not impressive and that measures had been put in place to improve future performance.
Madam Arthur, nominated as the Deputy Western Regional Minister, said the assembly has placed education on its priority list hence the institutio= n of the award scheme and that many students had benefited from it. She expressed regret that the district records 70 percent failure in th= e BECE results and 93even the 30 percent left is not too good". Mad Arthur said this at parade mounted in Shama to commemorate this year= 's independence celebration in the district. She presented school uniforms to two students who excelled in the BECE and are now in the Senior High School. They are Master Eric Addo who had aggregate eight and Ms Alberta Prempeh obtained aggregate nine. Madam Arthur said the Assembly would continue to support them through the SHS education and even beyond.
Madam Florence Inkoom, the Shama District Director of Education, advised the students to eschew negative practices like cheating in examinations, playing truancy at school and stealing.
