The Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) of Shama District Assembly has organised its maiden Town hall meeting to engage, educate and provide direction where to lodge grievances emanating from communities and among workers of the assembly.

The Town Hall Meeting held at the Aboadze Community centre was to fulfill constitutional obligations concerning the Functions of the Public Relations and Complaint Committee as enshrined in Article 27(1a,b&c) of the Local Government Act.

Mr Percy Ahenakwah, Presiding member and Chairman for the committee said local governance called for full participation of the citizenry and that sensitising the public on the duties and responsibilities of the PRCC was crucial to enable the public to forward any form of complaint to the committee to seek redress.

The meeting was attended by representatives of religious groups, market women, key stakeholders and the Chief of Aboadze, Nana Atom III.

The PRCC among others things shall educate the members of the public on the activities of the Assembly, promote transparency, probity and accountability in the dealings of the district Assembly with the public and investigate complaints or allegations made against the conduct of the District Chief Executive, members of the Assembly, staff of the Assembly and staff of the departments of the Assembly.

The Committee shall comply with the rules of natural justice in the performance of the functions of the committee and make recommendations to the Assembly in respect of its investigations for the appropriate actions of the Assembly.

Alhaji Abu Mahama, the District Planning Officer used the opportunity to highlight some development initiatives undertaken by the Assembly.

He mentioned that Agriculture, healthcare, education and skills development were high on the agenda of the Assembly in transforming the fortunes of the local area.
