The Shama Education Directorate has presented a number of items to individuals, institutions, students and teachers for their meritorious contributions towards the improvement of schools in the Shama district.
The recipients include the management of Takoradi International Company, (TICO) and energy company at Aboadze, Volta River Authority, the District Assembly and the MP for Shama, Mr Garbiel Essielfie.
The overall best teacher award went to Madam Elizabeth Taylor of Dwomo Methodist School while the District Assembly offered promising students scholarship scheme.
Madam Felicia Nketsia of Assorkor, Mr Simon Assbil, Mr Francis Inkoom of Aboadze-Abuesi and Mr Anthony Lawerth, Shama Senior High took the prizes for Nusery, Primary, Junior and Senior High schools respectively.
Their prizes included citations, refrigerators, clocks, fans, among other items.
Making the presentations at the parade grounds at Shama as part of activities marking the anniversary in the district, madam Florence Inkoom, Shama Director of Education, said though the district assembly was bound to support the schools, their response to their request was always with dispatch.
She prayed that they would continue to assist the schools in the district for them to catch up with the well-endowed schools in the country.
Madam Inkoom advised students to lead responsible lives and not to allow themselves to be lured into any election-related violence.
Mr Enoch Appiah, the District Chief Executive for Shama, encouraged the electorate to lead responsible lives in order to sustain the prevailing peace in the district.
He said the assembly, in its determination to ensure that students perform creditably in their examination has awarded scholarships to needy but brilliant students and enjoined the traditional and opinion leaders to restrict their wards from attending funerals and while their leisure periods must be used profitably.
The DCE impressed on parents to strive hard to educate their wards for them to become assets and not liabilities on families and society.
Mr Gabriel Essielfie, MP for Shama called on all to help champion the objective of development in the area by abiding by the assembly’s regulations and leading responsible lives to ensure progress.
Traditional heads clad in their rich kente cloths, heads of departments, teachers, security personnel and children attended the parade, which was held at the Shama Senior High School Park.
The participating students thrilled the audience to interesting gymnastic display beautiful match past with music provided by the Inchaban Methodist Brigade Band.
Children of Saint Mary’s School at Shama performed the role to the “Big Six” who announced the declaration of Ghana’s independence 55 years ago.
