The Shia Development Association and Shia Traditional Council, at the weekend launched its 2015 home-coming event in Accra to galvanise the support of the natives to achieve its targeted goals and objectives.
The annual event, which is scheduled for the last weekend of October, is part of activities to revive the Shia community and to also improve on the infrastructure development of the local senior high school and the traditional council.
All citizens of the Shia both local and international are expected to convene at the village on the last Friday of October to participate in a torchlight procession through the principal streets and a bomb fire night.
This year's event would be characterised by a grand durbar to provide the natives the opportunity to launch the community 10- year development plan on education, agriculture and the establishment of the Shia Rural Bank. It would also outdoor its development planning committee to ensure the implementation of the development plan.
Dr Felix Kwame Semavor, Chairman at the launch said in order to develop the community, so much resources are needed and advise the natives to give a helping hand.
He said there is the need for a data base of all Shia citizens both locally and internationally to facilitate the mobilisation of resources needed for development.
Dr Semavor said development is not about numbers but the commitment needed from the numbers.
Mr Stephen Kemetse, Chairman of the Home-coming Planning Committee said the development committee would be divided into sub-committees to ensure the implementation of the plan to achieve the targeted results.
He said there are so many development lapses in the area, which needs more attention to improve the living conditions of the natives.
Colonel Martin Gbikpi (Rtd) who launched the event expressed happiness about the commitment of the youth to take up the leadership mantle from the elderly to develop the area.
The Shia community is located in the Ho Municipality and shares border with the neigbouring Togo.
