Tema, July 05, GNA -- The Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Krakue has urged the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo to extend the needed support and love to Ghanaians residing in their country.

He said by so doing, the two countries would be forging unity among their people which, he noted, would be a right step towards Africa's achievement of a peaceful continent.

Nii Krakue made the appeal when the DR Congo's Minister of State in-charge of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mousa Nyamwisi Antipas, who represented President Joseph Kabila at the ninth Africa Union Summit visited the harbour city.

Recounting the long lasting relationship between Ghanaians, especially the Gas and DR Congo, The Tema Municipal Assembly's Presiding member, Mr Seth Laryea Tetteh noted that the ancestors of the Gas dwelled at Aboma in the Congo and adopted the 'gome' dance from them during their transit from Israel to Ghana.

Mr Tetteh indicated that, their grandfathers sought greener pastures in DR Congo, adding that, currently a number of the Tema natives still reside there.

Thanking the Tema Traditional Council for their warm reception, Mr Mousa Nyamwisi noted that, the relationship between the two countries was what Africa needed in order to attain the proposed United Africa. The DR Congo envoy was decorated with a ring of hyssop leaves which Gas use for such hospitable ceremonies and he was also presented with a golden gourd on a stool, representing the Tema traditional emblem.
