Sissala West Assembly to undertake "Operation meet the people"

Gwollu, UWR, May 9, GNA - The Sissala West District Assembly is to embark on a quarterly "Operation meet the people" programme soon, so that=

leaders in the area could account for their stewardship to the people. Assembly members, chiefs, heads of department, and other opinion leaders, would be expected to account for their performance within each quarter of the year. Mr. Robert Baka Wavei, Sissala West District Chief Executive announ= ced these at the first ordinary meeting of the Assembly, at Gwollu at the weekend. He said stakeholders would be expected to present detail account of what had been planned, executed, successes, failures and suggest the way forward to enable them to contribute to implementation of programmes of t= he district. Mr. Wavei lamented the smuggling of petroleum products to neighbouri= ng Burkina Faso from the district. He said the District Security Committee the ban of sale of petroleum=

products at "reseller points" was still in force and called on assemb= ly members to help arrest the smugglers.

Mr. Wavei said that the assembly had terminated contract on seven development projects in the area and re-awarded them to competent contractors. He explained that the work on the projects, which included building o= f classroom blocks, teachers' quarters and staff bungalows at Gwollu, Nimor= o and Gbal came to a standstill and the assembly decided to repackage them for completion. Mr. Wavei said the assembly had paid a total of 192,538.74 Ghana ced= is from its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund to the contractors,=

leaving an outstanding balance of 94,065.46 Ghana Cedis. He said that the repackaged projects would now cost 118.212.01 Ghana=

Cedis. Mr. Wavei said construction of a canteen at Gwollu and a three unit classroom blocks at Du-West had been completed while construction of staf= f bungalow at Gwollu and three unit classroom blocks at Nyentie were at advanced stage.
