Six communities benefit from Town Four Projects

Nkawie (Ash), Aug. 14, GNA - Six communities in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District have benefited from a number of projects under District's Towns Four Project.

The projects include lockable stores, classroom blocks with kindergarten and sanitary facilities, hospital blocks with laboratory, dispensary and urinal.

The communities are Abuakwa, Asenemaso, Barekese, Atwima-Koforidua, Asuofua and Nkawie.

Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, announced this, when he addressed the second general meeting of the assembly at Nkawie on Friday.

He said projects being constructed by two companies had been zoned into three and were expected to be completed in nine months. Mr Ofori-Donkor said the assembly had chosen seven modules under the National Youth Employment Programme, as a means of equipping the youth with employable skills and a future.

These include youth in agriculture, volunteer services, auxiliary health care workers assistants, rural education teachers' assistance, community protection system and youth in trade and vocations. He said the assembly disbursed a total of 220.8 million cedis in 2005 under the Poverty Alleviation Fund.

The DCE said for easy recovery of loans, Nwabiagya Rural Bank had been tasked to manage and disburse the funds to some identifiable groups and few deserving individuals across the district.

He said a fund of 380 million cedis had been secured and ready to be disbursed to farmers to reactivate ginger production in the district. Mr Ofori-Donkor announced that through the initiative of the district directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in collaboration with committed farming groups and benevolent non-governmental organisations (NGOs), a "One-Stop-Shop" will soon be established at Nkawie to facilitate agricultural activities in the district. 14 Aug. 06
