Accra, Aug. 16, GNA - The Institute of Local Government Studies on Tuesday presented six four-wheel drive vehicles and office equipment to six Regional Planning Coordinating Units (RPCUs) to assess the performance of district assemblies.

The logistics, which included printers, photocopiers, fax machines, computers and accessories were presented to the Greater Accra, Central, Eastern, Western, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti RPCUs. Northern, Volta, Upper East and Upper West regions have already benefited from the package.

Mr Kofi Poku-Adusei, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, who presented the items, said it formed part of the National Decentralisation Action Plan (NDAP) established to promote convergence of the decentralisation process.

He said the NDAP was also aimed at consolidating the process of resource allocation and management and promoting partnership and participation between local government, civil society, the private sector and traditional authorities.

"The main purpose of this Action plan is to consolidate the gains made and build partnerships towards a sector-wide approach in decentralisation implementation," Mr Poku-Adusei said. He commended the Danish International Development Agency for providing the budgetary support for the NDAP.

Mr Opoku Boamah, Central Regional Planning Officer, on behalf of the beneficiaries of the package said: "With these logistics we will deliver positively so that the impact can be felt at the district and national levels." 16 Aug. 05
