Amasaman (GA), Aug. 20, GNA - Mr Samuel Nii Aryeetey Attoh, Ga District Chief Executive has advised the people of Bortianor and Tsokomey, fishing communities in the Ga District to put a stop to unnecessary chieftaincy and land litigations to promote development in the area. He said chieftaincy and land litigations have put many developmental projects at a standstill in the area and it was about time the people change their habit to improve their living standard. Mr Aryeetey Attoh gave the advice on Monday after commissioning a 50- million cedi 12-seater KVIP toilet funded by Mr Barima Opong-Owusu, based in the U.S, and constructed free of charge by Barima Services Company Limited. The DCE commended the company for the offer and called on non-governmental organisations to emulate the company since government alone could not take all responsibilities of providing infrastructure like schools, clinics and other essential amenities for the people.
Mr Brempong Owusu-Akyaw, Managing Director of the Company, in a welcoming address said the company has a package of developmental project for the two fishing communities such as construction of a hotel, community centre that would attract tourists and playing fields. He said next year the Company would start the construction of a hotel, which would engage the youth in employment who normally spend their time drinking alcohol and smoking, after fishing.
Nii Akortey IV, Gyasetse of Bortianor, who chaired the function commended the company and said the chieftaincy dispute, which started about 70 years ago had been resolved and would collaborate with the Ga District Assembly to promote development projects in the area. He added that his people are ever ready to support any project with communal labour. 20 Aug. 03
