Nkoranza (B/A), Jan. 5 GNA - Nana Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV, Omanhene of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, has urged the youth of the area to desist from negative attitudes that would scare visitors as well as workers to refuse accepting postings to Nkoranza. Nana Agyeman Kudom gave the advice at the inauguration of the Cape Coast University Chapter of the Nkoranza Students Union (Nkosu) at Nkoranza.

The Omanhene expressed concern about reports that some unscrupulous people from the area had been defecating in classrooms during the night. He therefore, called on Assembly members, chiefs, unit committees and teachers to look out for perpetrators of such "disgraceful" act. Nana Agyeman Kudom also expressed concern about the failure of some parents to take good care of their children. He praised students of the area for coming together to initiate programmes that would promote the development of the area.

The District director of Education Mr. Janis R. Agyeman-Badu stressed the need for the students to be good role models in their communities. Mr Agyeman Badu said students in the area had in the past performed poorly in the Basic Education Certificate Examination. Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, the District Chief Executive, announced that the District Assembly was providing classroom blocks to some communities to promote teaching and learning.

According to Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi, the schools have also been furnished with adequate furniture in the form of dual desks. In an address read on his behalf, the MP of the area, Mr. Hayford Francis Amoako called on parents to invest in the education of their wards. Mr Amoako also urged the District Assembly to join hands with the Traditional Authorities to enact by-laws to prevent school children in the area from attending video shows, concerts, dances as well as funeral wake keepings as the practices have been affecting education in the district.
