Society gives to four institutions and a widow

Kumasi, Feb 6, GNA - Friends of the Abundance, a benevolent society in Cote d'Ivoire has presented food items worth 15 million cedis to four orphanage homes and a widow in the Ashanti Region.

They are the Kumasi Children's Home, Asante-Mampong Babies Home, Missionaries of Charity and the Orphanage Home of the Miraculous Evangelistic Ministry at Asenua and Madam Ama Gyankoma, a 110-year-old widow at Asuboa in the Asante-Akim South district.

The food items included 15 maxi bags of rice, 10 cartons of key bar soap, five containers of 20-litre edible oil and 10 cartons of milk. The rest are two cartons of Milo, two cartons of tomato paste, three cartons of sardine, two cartons of lactogen, 150 pieces of toilet roll and two cartons of spagetti.

Presenting the items to the representatives of the beneficiary institutions and the widow in Kumasi on Friday, Pastor Bless Ofori-Gyimah, Operations Officer of the society, said the organisation presented similar items to the SOS Village at Tema.

He said the society, jointly founded by him and Mr Humphrey Komla Senyo Anyomi, has donated three million cedis to the Otumfuo Education Fund and an amount of two million cedis and a carton of schnapps to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the last 'Akwasidae'.

Pastor Ofori-Gyimah said the society, which has already been turned into a church has produced over 3,000 cassettes with the title "The Lord's Reggae" which will be given to the SOS International to sell with the proceeds used to purchase items for the needy and the deprived in society.

He suggested that a day be set aside for annual celebration of worldwide orphans day whose attention will be focused on the orphans and widows and people sensitised to help change things for the better for them.

The Right-Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, commended the society for their contribution towards the survival and welfare of the needy in the society, saying, "you have fulfilled the scriptures".

He hoped the donation would go a long way to help in the upkeep of the children, pointing out that they are helping to bring up future leaders who would have been displaced in the society.
