Sokode to become a city of commerce and education- Captain Nfodjo

Sokode, (V/R), Sept. 19, GNA - The Chiefs and people of Sokode Traditional Area have been urged to unite and pave the way for the communit= y to become a place for higher education and commercial opportunities in the Volta Region. Captain George Nfodjo, (Rtd) Member of Parliament for Ho Central gave the exhortation at the outdooring of Mama Dzinu II as the new Queenmother o= f Sokode-Gborgame near Ho. He observed that Sokode, which is a strategic gateway to the Regional capital Ho, is known for its proverbial fufu chop bars which travellers could not resist the urge to sample.

Captain Nfodjo said additional attractions to the area are the propose= d University of Health and Allied Sciences with the main campus in the town a= s well as the transformation of the community Secondary Technical School into a public academic entity, which has attracted massive infrastructural development. He said some non-governmental organisations have acquired large tracts of land in the area for educational and other purposes. Captain Nfodjo said the future of the area is bright and therefore called for unity to chart a new direction befitting its prospects as an emerging cosmopolitan area. He asked the new Queen to use her rich experiences as a retired nurse to encourage mothers in the area to take keen interest in the development and education of their children.

She should also encourage the youth especially young ladies to take advantage of the emerging educational opportunities in the community. Captain Nfodjo said the chiefs and people in the area would see her as a counsellor and moderator as well as the initiator of development. He said good sanitation is another area the Queen's influence must b= e felt. Mama Dzinu pledged to serve the chiefs and people to the best of her ability. She said education especially of girls and development of the youth would engage her attention. Mama Dzinu asked for co-operation and prayers from all sections of the community to enable her serve them diligently.
