Kedzi (V/R), Dec 4, GNA - Major (rtd.) Courage Quashigah, Minister of Food and Agriculture has urged school children to strive to achieve high goals they have set for themselves by studying hard and following in the footsteps of men and women in their communities who have achieved similar goals.
He pointed out that the world has become so complex and competitive that those who are not serious would be left behind, adding, "with fast improvement in science and technology, there are modern facilities to assist children in their quest for more knowledge and high laurels."
Major Quashigah gave this advice when he commissioned a solar device installed at a total cost of 24 million cedis for the Resettlement Basic School at Kedzi neat Keta recently.
He also donated other items such as a 21-inch colour television set for the teachers staff-common room, 2000 exercise books, some boxes of chocolates and biscuits and sweets to the school children.
The Minister reminded the school children of the huge investment being made by the government, their parents and the community on them and urged them to use their time profitably so that they would become useful and accomplished members of the community.
The aspiring NPP parliamentary candidate for the Keta constituency, Mr Kudjoe Fianu observed that the numerous development projects, including the Keta Sea Defence project undertaken by the government bear the true testimony to the realities of positive change in the district. Mr Frianu however, expressed regret that the outgoing Member of Parliament could not address the complex social and economic problems of the people because he was too busy with legal tussles and called on the people to vote him out, stressing, "time and tide waits for no man".
He gave the assurance that if he is elected to power, he would provide the missing link with the NPP government and lead the constituency to return to its former glories as the commercial hub of the southern sector.
The Keta District Chief Executive, Mr Edward Ahiabor, noted that there is concrete, material evidence of solid progress everywhere in the district under the competent leadership of President Kufuor and called on the people to give the government their mandate to continue with the good works it has started.
