Some police personnel stationed at Hamile, along with some civilians, were brutally assaulted on Thursday night by uniformed soldiers for reasons that have yet to be uncovered.

MyNewsGh.com reported that the irate soldiers beat up their fellow police officers and unleashed their anger on some civilians in Hamile, a notable border town in the Lambussie district of the Upper West Region.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Lambussie Constituency, Hon. Dr. Bright B.Y. Baligi, has condemned the actions of the military and called on the military command, as well as the Minister for Defense, to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a statement issued and signed by Dr Baligi, the lawmaker described the conduct of the soldiers as uncivilized, irresponsible, unprofessional, reprehensible and unacceptable.

Read the details of his statement below:

My attention has been drawn to the most disturbing and appalling spectacle of military brutalities in Hamile, a suburb of the Lambussie constituency, which occurred last night, May 30, 2024.

I strongly condemn this reprehensible conduct of the military against innocent civilians and their colleague men in uniform — police officers — who were simply going about their normal activities in the community, performing their civic duties.

Such uncivilized conduct is irresponsible, unprofessional, reprehensible, and unacceptable, and is hereby condemned with the strongest indignation it deserves. These cowardly acts are an affront to the very fabric of our most cherished democratic values and human rights. The people of the Lambussie Constituency, and indeed all Ghanaians, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect by our men in uniform, especially the military.
