South Korean Organization opens library at Akwatia

A South Korean Organization, Sustaining Tourism for Eliminating Poverty (STEP), on Friday opened its 18th library in Ghana at the Islamic School at Akwatia.

The setting up of the facility was through the initiative of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Baba Jamal.

Madam Susan Lim, the Director of the Organization, led a three- member team to present a number of educational items, including 200 books, four book shelves and furniture to the school.

The donations also include a computer, printer and a sound system for the audio library and records keeping, 100 sets of stationary items, mathematical sets, exercise books, rulers, crayons, pens, pencils, sharpeners, a set of first aid kits and two footballs.

Mr. Adusei Deenkyi, Coordinator of the STEPS Small Library in Ghana, said libraries were the organization’s humble contributions to improve education in the country.

Mr. Jamal described STEP’s gesture as wonderful and noted that the books donated were some of the latest on the world’s book market, including the world book records of 2012.

He urged teachers of the school to ensure that the pupils made effective use of the library to advance their education.

Mr. Baba Jamal on his part said pupils from other Akwatia schools would have access to the library and should therefore not hesitate to visit it.

The Kwaebibirim District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Emmanuel Osae, asked the users of the library to handle the books well, adding that, a librarian from the National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) would oversee the facility.**
