Sunyani based radio station Space fm, has in collaboration with the Brong Ahafo Regional branches of the Bank of Ghana and the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), held a day’s sensitization programme on the re-denomination of the cedis at the Nana Bosoma Central Market in Sunyani on Wednesday.
Traders and the non-banking public were the main target of the programme which attracted an unprecedented patronage.
The Director/ Manager of Space fm, Mr.Ransford Antwi, said management of the station saw it as a social responsibility to reach out to the public with the explanation on the new Ghana cedi.
He added that the re-denomination should not be seen as just another currency exchange but rather an important means in promoting efficiency in the way business is conducted in the country.
Mr.Antwi urged the public to deal with banks only when circulation of the new Ghana cedis starts in July, in order to minimise activities of fraudsters.
An official of the B|A regional branch of the bank of Ghana, Mr. Lawrence Osei Bonsu pointed out that the central bank has not fixed in any specific date for the start of circulation of the new currency.
He said though it would be in July, he reminded the public that the old currencies would be used along side the new currency till the end of December 2007.
