The Ga West Education Directorate in the Greater Accra region has awarded 16 students of St. Joseph Catholic School in Amasaman for performing remarkably well in the 2014 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The students were awarded during Ghana’s 58th Independence celebration held at the Amasaman M/A School Park.

Out of the total of 24 awardees, 16 were former students of St Joseph Catholic School. They obtained grades between aggregate 6 and 9 and are now studying in different Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country.

The students were given certificates and undisclosed sum of monies together with some other items.

The school also received a Certificate of Excellence for being the best performing school in the 2014 BECE in the Ga West District.

St. Joseph Catholic School which has a population of about 214 is a Junior High School (JHS).

Scores of parents who spoke to Today acknowledged that St. Joseph deserved the award.

According to them, the 2014 BECE results were the best the school has ever had.

For instance, a parent who gave her name as Akua Fosuwaa said she and her husband had three of their children enrolled at St Joseph.

And two of them, she revealed, obtained aggregates 6 and 8 who are currently pursuing their SHS education in the Western region.

Presenting the award to the school, the Ga West Director of Education, Mr. Daniel Budu Asiedu, congratulated the students and urged them to study hard to make good grades to the university.

For his part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Sam Atukwei Quaye, advised them to take their studies seriously as the BECE was just a stepping stone to the difficult task ahead of them.

Receiving the award, the head mistress of the school, Madam Sylvia Esinu Odzor, thanked the Ga West Director of Education and all those who made it possible for the students and the school to chalk such successes.

She, therefore, extended her appreciation to her teachers, parents and the entire student body for their dint of hard work.
