Torompan (W/R), Jan. 23, GNA - The people of Toronpan, a farming community in the Wassa Amenfi District of Western Region have called on the government to consider, as a matter of urgency to intervene and stabilise the prices of cocoa insecticides, premix fuel and kerosene. It is unfortunate that prices of the commodities have abnormally gone high and it is even getting worse.

Mr Christian Dotse, alias Apiki, an opinion leader said this at a meeting between some members of National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by Dr Obed Asamoah, NDC National Chairman and the Toronpan community. The NDC members, who were on a working visit expressed their appreciation to the people of Toronpan for voting massively for NDC in the recent by-election held in Amenfi West Constituency which NDC lost. Mr Dotse said one bottle of cocoa insecticide is now sold at 80,000 cedis 34,000 cedis for premix fuel and 25,000 cedis for a gallon of kerosene.

"All these are some major necessities for cocoa farmers and rural dwellers but are being sold at cut-throat prices", he said.

Mr Dotse complained that the number of forms for registering eligible voters were limited the last time when voters register was re-opened, hence a number of voters were not registered.

Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, NDC National Organiser told the people not to sway their support to any other party and remain solid behind the NDC.

He said the failure of NDC in the last presidential elections would enable the people to judge for themselves the competence exhibited by NDC in managing the affairs of the nation when it was in power and the present administration.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo, who is also member of Parliament for Fanteakwa constituency said, in March, the voters register will be re-opened and pleaded with everybody who has attained 18 years and above to go and register, adding the only means to retain or vote a government out of power is ones ability to vote.

He reminded them that, during elections, some people will use money as a bait adding, "the hardship Ghanaians are going through now was created by NPP government." "And that money cannot sustain one's livelihood unless one is taught the means of acquiring that money", Mr Ampofo added.

Nana C.K. Kwaw chief of Toronpan in his welcoming address said Ghanaians should consider each other as one's brother's keeper and pleaded with leadership of the nation to maintain peace without which meaningful development cannot take place.

Some of the NDC members who were on the trip include Dr Josiah Aryeh, General Secretary, Mr Haruna Idrisu National Youth Organiser and Mr Seth Ofori-Ohene, member of the communication committee.
