Staff of Traditional Institutions urged to upgrade knowledge

Koforidua, Aug. 11, GNA - The staff of Traditional Councils and Regional Houses of Chiefs have been urged to upgrade their knowledge and skills so that they could contribute meaningfully to the transformation of the Chieftaincy Institution.

Mr Edward Obeng Marfo, Director of the Chieftaincy Secretariat, who made the call, said such innovation could assist Chieftaincy to conform to modern trends of development.

He was opening a two-day workshop for registrars, clerks and bailiffs of Traditional Councils and House of Chiefs of the Eastern Region in Koforidua on Tuesday.

Mr Marfo noted that members of the Councils and Houses were often saddled with heavy traditional schedules and, therefore, asked the staff to discharge their duties efficiently and with dispatch to facilitate the judicial function of the traditional bodies. He said the Secretariat had made the training of staff an essential part of its annual programme and urged the participants to take the workshop seriously.

Speaking on "General Administration and Communication Skills", Mr Akwasi Asare Ankomah, Registrar of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, called for the setting up of an effective communication network to link the Secretariat to traditional rulers to promote Chieftaincy for national development.

He, therefore, appealed to Government to provide the Secretariat with modern Information Communication equipment to enhance its work. Mr Ankomah also appealed to the Councils and Houses to acquire computers and organise computer training for their workers to improve upon their communication skills.

Mr David Sogbodjor, Registrar of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, advised workers of the Councils and Houses to perform their duties fairly in order to win the confidence of the people.
