Stakeholders, expert to meet Public Service Broadcasting

Accra, Dec. 13, GNA - A primary stakeholders/experts meeting on public service broadcasting in Ghana is scheduled for December 17-18 at Akosombo.

A statement signed by Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), said it would be under the theme: "Public Service Broadcasting in Ghana - The Way Forward". The two-day meeting, which will take place at the Volta Hotel, Akosombo, is being organized by the GJA in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) and KAB Governance Consult (KGC). Speakers will include Mrs Oboshie Sai-Cofie, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr Paul Adu Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Media Commission, and Mr Ransford Tetteh, GJA President. GJA has held five regional consultative meetings on the subject matter for a cross-section of the public.

The statement said the Akosombo meeting would review the findings from the regional forums and its outcome would inform the GJA in the development of a memorandum to the Executive, Legislature and relevant constitutional bodies on the way forward for Public Service Broadcasting in Ghana.

The GJA's interest in the subject matter is based on the conviction that vibrant public service broadcasting is critical to giving voice to all shades of opinion, thereby optimizing the media's contribution to building a democratic culture in the country. About 40 participants made up of the Executive, Legislature, constitutional bodies, GBC Board, media practitioners, experts and critical stakeholders are expected at this meeting.
