Stanbic Ghana supports Korle-Bu

Stanbic Ghana has donated GHC100,000.00 to the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to cater for the treatment of the June 3 fire victims.

The staff of the bank contributed GHC50,000.00 and the bank management topped it up with additional GHC50,000.00.

An explosion at the Goil Filling Station on June 3 at Kwmane Nkrumah Circle in Accra saw many people who went to seek shelter from the rains, losing their lives while others suffered severe burns.

Nearly 160 people were reported dead, while properties running into millions of Ghana cedis were destroyed by the torrential rain.

Presenting the Cheque, Mr Alhassan Andani, Managing Director of Stanbic Ghana, said the bank is contributing its support to enable the centre meet the medical needs of the victims of the tragic fire disaster.

“In times like this it is most important that we demonstrate our commitment and Stanbic Staff and management deemed it fit to do just that,” he said.

Receiving the cheque, Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah, Director of the Centre, expressed gratitude to Stanbic Bank for the assistance.

He said not many persons are able to meet the cost of treatment at the centre and lauded the massive response by the various institutions to the victims since the disaster.

He urged Stanbic Bank to consider taking up the training of doctors and nurses in burns as no local training is currently available.

Meanwhile the Bank has also donated GHC52,200.00 to the Cardio Thoracic Centre to enable the medical facility acquire heart-attack detection equipment.

The Centre has acquired the equipment to replace the one broken down at the cost of $24,000 but is yet to pay.

The donation by Stanbic would cater for half the cost of the equipment.
