Stay away from pension fund - Health workers

The Health Services Workers Union (HSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has appealed to the government to release second tier pension contributions of its members to service providers appointed by their Board of Trustees.

Members of the Upper East branch of the HSWU said they would resist any attempt by the government to impose any service providers on them.

“We are satisfied with the service providers our Board of Trustees appointed to manage our funds,” they said at a press conference at Bolgatanga.

The Spokesperson for the group, Ms Benedicta Azigeda, said they were disturbed because their Second Tier contributions were still lodged at the Bank of Ghana instead of being lodged with their service providers to be used for profitable ventures to enable them enjoy the lump sum proposed by the scheme.

She said several appeals made by the national leaderships to the Presidency had not yielded any positive result.

Ms Azigeda said most of their colleagues would be going on retirement early next year yet no institutional arrangement had been put in place to ensure that they benefitted from the lump sum from the Second Tier contribution.

She said most of its members were psychologically traumatized by the way and manner the Scheme was being implemented and this could affect productivity if care was not taken to address the problem.
